Acacia concinna, a.k.a. Shikakai, is a common herb used in various natural remedies. It is widely popular as a ‘fruit for the hair .’It has mild pH levels, which gently cleanses hair without removing natural oils. In Ayurveda, acacia concinna is suggested to treat dandruff, promote hair growth, and strengthen hair roots. The decoction of pods is also used to relieve biliousness. In the form of an ointment, ground pods are also considered good for skin diseases.

Overview

The pods of acacia concinna (commonly termed Shikakai) inherit several saponins compounds. Acacia concinna is a thorny spreading shrub abundantly found in Southeast Asia and India. The seedpods of Acacia concinna containing saponins are valued as completely natural cleansers, which produce a compelling and rich lather for cleaning hair and skin.
