General Usage
Acorus Calamus (Vacha) is suitable for skin exfoliation and is used during panchakarma therapy or abhyanga to remove oil. It is commonly referred to as a ‘sweet flag’ and is aromatic. It supports the proper functioning of the lymphatic system and reinvigorates the skin. In massage oil, Calamus removes natural toxins. In Ayurveda, it is also used in Nasya (nasal) oils.
Overview
Constituents isolated from Acorus Calamus include phenylpropanoids, sesquiterpenoids, and monoterpenes. Acorus Calamus is also known for its properties as an anticonvulsant, antidepressant, antihypertensive, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, neuroprotective, cardioprotective, and anti-obesity effects. Its active constituents aid the body in several metabolic and neurological disorders.
