General Usage

Aloe barbadensis (Aloe vera) is commonly used in cosmeceuticals and nutraceuticals for its exceptional healing properties. Aloe vera also has a protective effect against radiation damage to the skin. Consumption of aloe vera also has a positive effect on the immune system. Mucopolysaccharides present in aloe vera bind moisture to the skin and also have an anti-aging effect. The antiseptic agents present in aloe vera have inhibitory actions on fungi, bacteria, and viruses.

Overview

Naturally, aloe vera consists of 98.5%–99.5% water with the remaining solids containing more than 200 different components including glucomannans, amino acids, lipids, sterols, vitamins, anthraquinones, glycosides, etc.; polysaccharides being the most abundant compounds. It contains vitamins A (beta-carotene), C, and E, which are antioxidants. It also contains vitamin B12, folic acid, and choline. It contains minerals such as calcium, chromium, copper, selenium, magnesium, manganese, potassium, sodium, and zinc.
