Traditionally, chicory roots are used in Ayurvedic medicine because they are rich in fiber and bioactive compounds. C. intybus is conventionally taken to relieve different digestive disorders. It also has hypolipidemic, antimicrobial, immunomodulatory, and anti-inflammatory properties. It has been rapidly growing as a part of the function food in present days.

Cichorium intybus (Chicory) of the Astraceae family is widely popular as an herbal supplement. Chicory roots are good source of nutrient elements (K, Fe, Ca), vitamins (A, B1, B2, C) as well as bioactive compounds (inulin, sesquiterpene lactones, coumarin derivatives, cichoric acid, phenolic acids). It is commonly used to treat gastrointestinal disorders.
