Gymnema sylvestre is extensively used in Indian herbal medicine for treatment of diabetes, rheumatism, cough, ulcer, jaundice, dyspepsia, constipation, eyes pain and also in snakebite. The herbal formulation also helps in reducing body weight, blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It is significant in treatment of problems like cardiovascular disorders, obesity, osteoporosis, and asthma.
Overview
Gymnema sylvestre (Gudmar) is also known as Madhunashini in Ayurveda. G. sylvestre shows positive effects on blood sugar homeostasis, controls sugar cravings, and promotes regeneration of pancreas. It is a medicinal climber belonging to the family Asclepiadaceae. It has a prominent place in indegeneous medicine because of its diabetes controlling properties. Gudmar is widely used across nutraceutical and herbal supplement industry.
