In Ayurveda, Kutaja has been mentioned as an herb that manages Kapha and Pitta doshas. It is used to treat diarrhoea, irritable bowel syndrome, and other digestive disorders. Classical formulation of this herb along with other herbs is used in treating fever, jaundice, anemia, and diabetes.

Holarrhena antidysenterica, commonly known as Kutaja, is a medicinal plant found across Indian subcontinent. The bark of Kutaja plant is astringent, anthelmintic, amoebicidal, and diuretic in nature. It is a significant medicinal herb that is used in treatment of amoebic dysentery and other gastric disorders.
